Labor Day in USA and Canada

 The first Labor Day was celebrated by workers in New York in 1882. It spread to the rest of the country over the years before being recognized by the United States Congress in 1894.



Americans are enjoying a long weekend  However, the holiday this year could mean something different to those who are unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic ,in a country that lost 20.5 million jobs in April and nearly a million the month before

eight weeks before the US presidential election, in the midst of an election campaign marked by strong racist  tensions .


Wall Street is taking a break on Monday to celebrate 'Labor Day'. The US markets will therefore remain closed and will not reopen until tomorrow Tuesday.

Most stores are still operating with reduced hours due to COVID-19 and others will reduce hours. Most pharmacies are closed.
