But when a suspicious neighbor moves in next door and a patient escapes from the psychiatric ward, Hubie Dubois is more vigilant than ever. SPOILERS AHEAD OF TIME!

Synopsis of Hubie's Halloween

Hubie Dubois is a man with a heart of gold. Yet, unfortunately, he is an easy target for bullies and is still the target of many jokes in his hometown. All Hubie wants is to make sure that people can have a safe but fun Halloween every year, and this time nothing has changed. Although he is constantly harassed, he uses his trusty high-tech thermos and cycles around the neighborhood to make sure everything is running smoothly. Hubie has a crush on Violet Valentine (Julie Bowen). In fact, he's been in love with her since the second year. A now divorced violet is raising three children in foster care and working in a restaurant, where she has many informal conversations with Hubie.

One day, Walter Lambert (Steve Buscemi) moves in next door and tells Hubie to ignore all the noises that may be coming from his house. In fact, he urges the naive Hubie to turn the other cheek completely. Around the same time Richie Hartman (Rob Schneider) also escaped from a psychiatric ward, and this information really scares Officer Steve Downing (Kevin James). So the cop tells Hubie to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. When people mysteriously disappear all over town on Halloween night, the self-proclaimed protector of the holiday goes into action to protect the people of Salem.

Hubie Halloween ending

At first, Hubie thinks that the kidnapper is none other than his neighbor, Walter, who also appears to be a werewolf. On the other hand, Agent Downing thinks that Hubie's old friend, Richie Hartman, is responsible. But a call from the police station proves them both wrong. After all, when Lester and Mrs. Hennessey were taken away, Walter and Richie were already in custody. It turns out that Richie had escaped from the psychiatric facility to bring his roommate, Walter.

With no suspects in sight, the tables turn on Hubie and everyone wonders if he was kidnapping people in revenge for all the bullying he has suffered over the years. But he doesn't, and he runs away to the WTCH radio station, where DJ Aurora tells Hubie that there's a lady calling to dedicate songs to him. The radio jockey also mentions Chardonnay, inadvertently referring to a previous (and private) conversation between Hubie and Violet.

So the Halloween fanatic calls the cops, and together they hope to get a confession of his crush. When Violet shows up, Hubie immediately panics and says the safe word: pumpkin. So the officers call the burner cell that DJ Aurora had told them about. The sound comes from Hubie's house, erasing Violet's name once and for all. They profess their love for each other, but he rushes to save his mother.

However, it turns out that Mrs. Dubois (June Squibb) is behind it all. She has taken a stand on behalf of her son and kidnaps M. Landolfa, Mike Mundi, Lester and Mrs. Hennessey. They are tied to the trees and the mother pours gasoline to light them. Hubie saves the situation by throwing her soup on the lit match. The four are still quite ungrateful, but Mrs. Dubois questions them about their ungrateful behaviour.

An honest conversation takes place in which each one conveys the reason why Hubie was reprimanded, from "sexual hope" to the one with the hair on his head. Mrs. Dubois then disappears after playing the Frankenstein trick. In the end, however, Hubie reunites with Violet. He also becomes mayor of Salem. People no longer throw objects and insults at him when he takes to the streets.

Why did Hubie go to the WTCH radio station?

When everyone starts to feel like Hubie is the culprit, he leaves the haunted house and runs to the WTCH radio station. Now, the radio ads play a small but powerful role throughout the film. But knowing the kind of person Hubie is, it seems a little strange that the protagonist chooses to go there instead of his house to check on his mother first.
